Liposuction is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure used to eliminate unwanted pockets of fat from various areas of the body. The procedure targets areas of subcutaneous fat that are typically resistant to diet and exercise. This body sculpting procedure offers a smoother, leaner body contour with minimal discomfort and downtime afterward.
Who is it For?
Liposuction is available for both men and women in the San Diego area who want to achieve a sleeker body profile. It can be used on any of the following areas:
- Hips, thighs and buttocks
- Inner knee and calves
- Waistline and abdomen
- Breasts, chest and back
- Upper arms
- Neck and jawline
- Thin, stubborn pockets of fat around the thighs, buttocks and hips
- Overhanging skin prone to chaffing and irritation
- Loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone due to pregnancy and aging
About the Procedure
During liposuction, fat cells are removed from unwanted areas of the body using suction from small, thin tubes called cannula. The tubes are inserted into small incisions and used to break down fat deposits and remove them. Often contouring is used to restore an attractive shape once the fat is removed, and the small incisions are then sealed. Typically, there is minimal scarring after liposuction, and any marks will fade to almost invisible with time.
After the Procedure
Most San Diego patients are discharged within two hours of the procedure, with extreme cases remaining overnight. Bandages and compression garments are used to minimize swelling and help the body maintain its new shape as it heals. You may have small drains in your incisions immediately to drain excess fluid and blood from the procedure; these will be removed after a few days.
What about Results?
Liposuction will visibly change your appearance, and results may be permanent if you continue to lead an active, healthy lifestyle following the procedure. Further weight gain will cause your body to revert to its previous shape.
