What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Kaweski to reshape and rejuvenate saggy or droopy breasts. A breast lift is a common way for women to improve the appearance of their breasts by altering their shape, not the size. This procedure is recommended for women who want to reposition their breasts to their original place after pregnancy or breastfeeding. It can also address stretched nipples and areolas. A breast lift is typically part of a “mommy makeover.”

How Does a Breast Lift Work?

Dr. Kaweski will perform the breast lift by applying general anesthesia. The incisions are then placed around the areola. A vertical incision called a “lollipop incision” (a vertical incision added to the middle of the breast) is used sometimes for excessively sagging breasts. During surgery, Dr. Kaweski will remove excess skin and reposition the breast tissue, including the nipple and areola. After achieving the desired breast shape, the incisions will be closed with sutures. Scarring differs based on the type of incision made.

Breast Lift Timeline and Process

Consultation with Dr. Kaweski

Dr. Kaweski will have a conversation with you about your medical history. You will also be given a customized treatment plan with transparent information on what a breast lift surgery entails and what results to expect after surgery.

Procedure Preparation by Dr. Kaweski

You will be advised by Dr. Kaweski to stop smoking for five weeks before your breast lift surgery and temporarily discontinue blood thinners, aspirin, or herbal supplements. During surgery, Dr. Kaweski will mark the areas with a pen for the incisions and decide which incision is best based on breast size and shape, areola size and position, level of breast sagging, and skin quality and elasticity. A general anesthesia will be injected to keep you asleep during the procedure.

Repositioning and Suture by Dr. Kaweski

After making an incision, Dr. Kaweski will lift and reshape the underlying breast tissue, reposition the nipples and areolas, and reduce excess skin. Your vital signs will be monitored during surgery. Once reshaping, removal of excess skin, and skin tightening are done, the incisions will be closed with sutures layered deep within the breast tissue.

Post-Procedure Care by Dr. Kaweski

You will be advised by Dr. Kaweski not to drive home due to the general anesthesia that you were under. Dr. Kaweski will also prescribe oral pain medication for any discomfort experienced after surgery. There will be visible swelling and bruising, but these will subside within a few days.

Recovery Guidance by Dr. Kaweski

A special bra will provide you with support and faster healing. Dr. Kaweski will recommend that you do not lie down on your stomach but rest in a reclining position, with pillows propped behind your back. You may return to your regular activities in 7-10 days, and exercising and heavy lifting in around four weeks.

Follow-Up with Dr. Kaweski

Post-surgery, Dr. Kaweski and her team at Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery will continuously monitor your healing and recovery. Early detection of issues allows for timely intervention, so treatment plans can be adjusted accordingly.
