About the Procedure
During liposuction, fat cells are removed from unwanted areas of the body using suction from small, thin tubes called cannula. The tubes are inserted into small incisions and used to break down fat deposits and remove them. Often contouring is used to restore an attractive shape once the fat is removed, and the small incisions are then sealed. Typically, there is minimal scarring after liposuction, and any marks will fade to almost invisible with time.
After the Procedure
Most San Diego patients are discharged within two hours of the procedure, with extreme cases remaining overnight. Bandages and compression garments are used to minimize swelling and help the body maintain its new shape as it heals. You may have small drains in your incisions immediately to drain excess fluid and blood from the procedure; these will be removed after a few days.
