Laser hair removal offers a minimally-invasive method of removing unwanted facial and body hair with little discomfort and no downtime. The procedure uses high frequency laser energy to damage hair follicles, causing hair to fall out and making it difficult for future hair to grow in its place. Laser hair removal provides long-lasting results, with some San Diego patients going many months or even years before requiring touch-up treatments at the Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery.

About the Procedure

Dr. Kaweski performs laser hair removal as an outpatient procedure using a topical anesthetic to enhance patient comfort. A handheld laser tool is passed over the surface of the skin in the treatment area, removing each hair from its follicle individually. The procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more to complete, based on the total size of the treatment area.

What about Results?

To understand the results of laser hair removal, it is important to understand the various phases of hair growth:

  • Anagen Phase – active growth phase
  • Catagen Phase – brief transitional phase, lasting approximately 2-4 weeks
  • Telogen Phase – dormant phase

Laser hair removal only affects hair follicles in the anagen, or active growth phase. This means a single laser treatment may only successfully remove one-third of the hair in the treatment area. Normally, three treatment sessions are required to fully remove hair from a specific area. Treatment sessions are generally spaced around six weeks apart to ensure all the phases of hair growth are addressed.

Once the laser treatment is complete, it takes 2-3 weeks for the hair in the treated area to fall out. However, once it is gone, it may be difficult for future hair to grow in its place. That is why laser hair removal is touted as one of the longest-lasting methods of hair removal available today.

Unwanted body and facial hair is easier to eliminate than ever before, thanks to innovative laser hair removal treatments.
