Micro fat grafting is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used to restore volume and a youthful appearance to the face. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and can be used to address a wide range of areas and concerns. As fat is removed from some areas of the body, it can be harvested and replaced in other areas. Because the cells used are all from the patient’s own body, risk of allergic reaction is eliminated and results are natural and beautiful.
Who is it For?
Fat grafting can be used on men and women who have noticed a loss in facial volume from particular areas of the face. The most common areas addressed with micro fat grafting include:
• Under eye area to minimize lines and restore volume
• Cheeks, lips and chin augmentation
• Deep creases around the mouth and nose
• Shallow scarring due to acne or chicken pox
• Backs of the hands to regain a youthful appearance
Larger injections of fat can also be used to round out body contours around the buttocks and breasts. Micro fat injection may be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as a facelift, brow lift or eyelid surgery to enhance results.
Exciting New Developments in Fat Grafting
For San Diego patients interested in micro fat grafting, we now offer a proprietary treatment to rehydrate your skin for a more youthful appearance!
Using the remaining fat from San Diego patients’ fat grafting procedure, we purify it using a centrifuge separating the fat from the oil, water and blood. If enough oil is produced, we are able to return that oil directly to the skin. This is pure natural oil and can be mixed with mint or lavender extract for an aromatherapeutic experience.
About the Procedure
Dr. Kaweski performs micro fat grafting as an outpatient procedure at Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery in the San Diego area. The first step involves removal of fat from an area like the thighs, abdomen or buttocks, using local anesthetic. A narrow cannula gently removes fat cells with the purpose of preserving them for the grafting process.
The removed fat cells are then carefully harvested to prepare them for injection into another area of the body. Fat cells are injected in grafting areas using a fine needle placed just under the surface of the skin. Local anesthetic may also be used during the grafting procedure to ensure patient comfort throughout.
After the Procedure
Compression dressings are placed over both the harvest and grafting areas after the procedure. San Diego patients may experience minor discomfort, which can be satisfactorily managed with oral pain medication. It is normal to have some bruising and swelling at the treatment sites, which subsides within 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
What about Results?
Results of micro fat grafting can be evident right away, although most patients see noticeable results within 3-6 months. Full results may take up to one year. Fat grafting is considered a permanent procedure, although 2-3 follow-up treatments may be required to produce full desired results.
Micro fat grafting is becoming an attractive alternative to injectable filler treatments, due to no risk of allergic reactions and long-lasting results.
