About the procedure

Dermabrasion is performed in the San Diego area at Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia The procedure uses a diamond wheel to remove upper layers of skin, damaging the skin to stimulate the healing process. As the skin heals, new skin appears softer and more youthful, without blemishes that were evident on the outer surface of the skin.

Dermabrasion may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour to perform, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Once the procedure is completed, the area is allowed to dry naturally to speed up the recovery process. San Diego patients may also require oral pain medication for the first few days after the procedure to manage the discomfort.

What about results?

The results of dermabrasion may be seen after the skin heals fully from the procedure, usually 2-3 weeks. However, the skin remains red for several months but makeup will cover the area adequately. Skin will be softer with more even texture and tone and fewer blemishes and imperfections. Results of dermabrasion are long-lasting, with many patients only requiring one treatment over a lifetime to achieve and maintain desired results.
