Sculptra is an injectable solution containing poly-L-lactic acid that provides benefits to the appearance of the face over time. While results are gradual with this formula, they are also long lasting. Sculptra can be used to smooth deeper facial wrinkles in the lower area of the face or to restore volume to facial contours. The product has been widely used in the past for medical reasons and is now approved by the FDA in 2009 for cosmetic treatments as well.
Who is it For?
Sculptra is an option for men and women in the La Mesa and San Diego area who want a long-lasting solution to the telltale signs of aging. The formula is usually recommended for adult patients with healthy immune systems, who are willing to commit to a series of treatments to achieve desired results. Sculptra is typically used for the following types of skin concerns:
- Creases running from the lower nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Lines running from the corners of the mouth to the jawline (marionette lines)
- Chin wrinkling and loss of fat around the jawline
- Loss of volume in the cheek area
- Shallow scarring
- Hollow areas around the eyes
Sculptra may be used alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures for a more dramatic result. Common procedures performed with Sculptra include a facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery or skin rejuvenation procedures.
About the Procedure
Dr. Kaweski offers Sculptra injections at Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery in the La Mesa and San Diego area. Prior to treatment, the patient is given a topical anesthetic to ensure comfort during the procedure. Injections of the solution are placed in strategic areas to stimulate collagen production under the surface of the skin. At the same time, the product reinforces the current collagen structure to produce firmer, smoother skin on the surface. Injections are administered via a very fine needle, just under the skin’s surface. A Sculptra procedure takes just a few minutes to complete, based on the number of injections required.
After the Procedure
No downtime is required after a Sculptra treatment, so patients can return to work and regular activities as soon as the procedure is over. Some swelling, discoloration and tenderness may occur around the injection site, which usually subside within 1-15 days.
What about Results?
Results of Sculptra are not evident right away. While there may be some positive signs immediately after the procedure, these are primarily due to swelling around the injection site and water contained within the Sculptra formula. Within one week, the treated area may look as it did prior to the procedure.
Over the following weeks, collagen production will improve the overall appearance of the area. Results can be enhanced through a series of three or more treatment sessions at the beginning of the process. Once desired results are achieved, touch-up sessions should only be required every 1-2 years.
