A neck lift removes the signs of aging from the neck area, including sagging skin and wrinkles. This surgical procedure firms the underlying skin structure first, before skin is replaced over the area and excess skin removed. A neck lift may be performed alone or in combination with other procedures like liposuction or a facelift to produce more dramatic results.
Who is it For?
Often the neck is the first place to show the telltale signs of aging. A neck lift can be performed on both men and women in reasonably good health who have a positive attitude about plastic surgery and realistic expectations about the outcome. Concerns addressed by a neck lift include:
- Sagging skin around the jawline that creates loose jowls
- Banding of the neck due to excess skin
- The turkey gobbler appearance
- Excess fat or skin around the neck
- Muscle laxity around the jawline and neck
About the Procedure
A variety of neck lift procedures are performed by Dr. Kaweski at Aesthetic Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery in the La Mesa and San Diego area. Surgery may be done under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of work to be done. Incisions are usually made in front or behind the ear, in an inconspicuous area where scarring after the procedure will be minimal.
During a neck lift, Dr. Kaweski tightens the underlying skin structure and muscles of the neck. If excess pockets of fat are to be removed, liposuction may be performed first, to make it easier to re-adjust muscle and tissue. Skin is then re-draped over the area and excess skin is removed. The entire procedure may take anywhere from 2-4 hours to complete, depending on the number of areas to be addressed.
After the Procedure
A neck lift is performed on an outpatient basis, which means the La Mesa and San Diego patients can return home the same day as the procedure. Discomfort is generally minimal and may be effectively managed with oral pain medication. Swelling and bruising around the incision sites subsides within 2-3 weeks.
What about Results?
The final result of a neck lift is generally evident within 4-6 weeks, as the neck area fully heals. Results may continue to improve many months after the procedure. A neck lift is considered a long-lasting cosmetic procedure, although the signs of aging may begin to appear after a number of years. Follow-up procedures may be recommended to prolong positive results. A neck lift is an effective way to regain your youthful appearance.
