Indications:

  • To remove the excess skin of the neck
  • To smooth out the turkey gobbler appearance to the neck
  • To tighten the neck and create a new jaw line

Description of the procedure:

  • The operation is done under local or general anesthesia depending upon the extent of the procedure.
  • Generally scars are placed in front of the ear and in the back of ear through the scalp.
  • Occasionally, some prefer the scars to be centered in the mid portion of the neck to avoid any scars in the front of the ears.
  • Both the subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened and the excess skin is removed and re-draped.

Intended result:

  • A more natural and youthful jaw line

Recuperation and Healing:

  • The patient goes home with the head and neck wrapped in cotton dressing which are usually removed in 2 days.
  • Sometimes drains are placed in the neck and are removed at the time the dressing is removed.
  • Minimal initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.
  • Sutures are removed in 7 -14 days.
  • Bruising and swelling decrease to ‘socially acceptable’ levels in 14-21 days.
  • The final result is evident 4 -6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.
